Thomas Peters, 90, of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Thursday, March 30, 2017 in Urbana Place.
He was born September 15, 1926 in Lawrence County, Ohio. Tom was a 1944 Graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Tom retired from International Harvester and served Union Township for many years as clerk. He loved farming and raising cattle & sheep, and especially enjoyed being a 4-H Advisor to help the kids of Champaign County. Tom enjoyed golfing, playing cards, watching sports, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Edwards) Smith-Peters; his children, Cindy Peters and Mitch Peters; granddaughters, Dr. Taylor Peters, Tori Peters and Delaney Peters; his step-children, Jim (Racille) Smith, John (Ann) Smith and Robi (Steve) Zirkle; his step-grandchildren, John (Tonia) Smith, Derek Zirkle, Darcie Zirkle, Darbie Zirkle, Bart Smith and Stacey Smith; his brothers, Howard (Marcella) Peters and Charles E. Peters; and many more beloved family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Jewell (Wiseman) Peters and his first wife, Lucille (Flannery) Peters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, April 3, 2017 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the Mutual Grace United Methodist Church, 5744 E. St. Rt. 29, Urbana, with Rev. Mimi Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church for their Overtime Program, 42 N. Main Street, Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044.

We were so sad to hear of Tom’s passing. He was such a kind man and truly a pleasure to be around. I am grateful for many fond memories of playing cards with Tom and Betty out at Grandpa Bill’s. Your Dad, Grandad was an amazing man. I am so sorry for the pain that all of you are experiencing. I have never known a more loving and kind human being. I was always amazed that a man with such large hands could have the most gentle soul. You were loved by so many and we be equally missed. I am so grateful that I had the pleasure of knowing you and witnessing the true love that you had for all of your family. RIP Tom and Thank you for making this world a better place!!!
