Vera Frances (Ladd) Stanhope, 84, was blessed with length of days and a fruitful following. A native of Bellefontaine, OH, Vera was born, July 17, 1927, the daughter of Rev. James Wesley & Joy Francis (Williams) Ladd. She was one of 11 children. Vera came to know Christ at a young age while attending Auburn Avenue Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, OH. She later attended Jerusalem 2nd Baptist Church, where her father Rev. Ladd was the Assistant Pastor. She wedded her husband John Leonard Stanhope in 1945 and to their union they had five children: Van, Rosalie, Jacqualine, Sally and Amy.
Proverbs 31 defines Vera. She together with John invested their efforts toward raising up their children in the admonition of the Lord. She displayed an exemplary work ethic at W.D. Marvins. She later retired from Grimes Manufacturing. She took various housekeeping jobs as she endeavored to be John’s helpmate. She committed her time to volunteer efforts such as the American Cancer Society and the church. At Bread of Life Church, she sang in the choir and was a faithful member. She later joined The River of Life Christian Center where she touched many lives for the cause of Christ.
Vera maintained a youthful approach toward life throughout her days. She returned to the classroom as a senior citizen in 1990. Together with her daughter, Amy, they each successfully earned their GED’s. It was late in her season when she earned her driver’s license. With this newfound freedom, she was able to more widely explore one of her great pleasures of garage/yard sales.
She indulged herself in the things of God. She greatly enjoyed reading- especially materials pertaining to Kingdom living. She could read a book from cover to cover in a day. She could lose herself in the word for hours at a time. She thoroughly loved praise and worship music. Many can attest to her sacrificially giving herself to the glory of the Lord.
Beloved friends & family, we are with heavy hearts at the separation of our dear Mother Stanhope, however, we rejoice in the spirit that she is no longer in pain and suffering. She can now run, dance and breathe deeply the Goodness of the Lord God Almighty! Vera took flight to her heavenly home at approximately 6:49 p.m. on June 16, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with illness. She is now and forever with our Lord. We thank you all for all of your wonderful cards of ”get well”, gestures of kindness, and words of life that made her passage through this temporary home more pleasant. It pleases us to think that she was able to spend this Father’s Day with Daddy Stanhope! Furthermore, we can just envision her bowing before His throne singing His praises.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10-12 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the River of Life Christian Center. Vera’s Home Going Celebration will be held at 12:00 noon in the church with Pastor Dan Leiker officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery Urbana, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to Champaign Residential Service, P.O. Box 29, Urbana, Ohio 43078.
Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio. Condolence may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
