Vernon R. “Vern” Tullis, 84, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 13, 2010, in his residence.
He was born September, 27, 1925 in Mechanicsburg, the son of Wingate and Winifred (Rutan) Tullis.
Vern served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed following Mechanicsburg and Ohio State Football, fishing, watching the Purple Martins and reading. He was a 60 year member of the Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge #113.
Vern is survived by his loving wife Nancy Tullis; one daughter, Kathy (Jim) Warye of Marysville; four sons, Mark Pence of Fallon, NV, Michael (Julie) Pence of Mechanicsburg, Jeffrey (Rita) Pence of South Vienna and Jonathan (Tammy) Pence of Brewton, AL; nine grandchildren, Jason and Ashley Warye, Trinity, Drew, Crystal, Josh (Tasha), Megan, Nathan and Daulton Pence; two sister, Marjol Kinney and Priscilla Andrews both of Springfield; thirteen nieces and nephews, Michael, Daryl and Keith Kinney, Thomas Tullis, Shirley Wright, Dana Andrews, Jane Steen, Darin Andrews, Kerri Beene, Kris Eidem, David Peterson, Alison Johnson and Melissa Sereno; and his baby Heidi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Wayne Tullis.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. following the visitation. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010 with visitation one hour prior in the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Harley Roston will be officiating. A graveside service with military honors will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
