Virgil D. Rader, 78 of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Thursday, August 18, 2011 in the Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
He was born October 2, 1932 in Sandusky Township, Richland County, Ohio the son of George Dewey and Myrtle Violet (Muth) Rader.

He was a 1952 Graduate of Ontario High School, Graduated from Ohio Mechanics Institute in Cincinnati in 1958, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a Major in Industrial Arts from Ohio Northern University in 1965. Virgil served aboard the USS St. Paul in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a former member of the Ada JayCee’s and the Mechanicsburg Lions Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0238. He was an employee of Fischer Body Assembly Plant in Ontario, Ohio from 1958 to 1961 and in 1965 he began his career as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Mechanicsburg High School and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church. Virgil loved his family dearly. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, bowling, and was an exceptional craftsman in woodworking.
Virgil is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Leota (Greenawalt) Rader, whom he married August 27, 1961; his sons, Russell Rader of Lavonia, Michigan and Rodney (Melissa) Rader of Mechanicsburg; his daughter, Renee (JD) Parker of Copperas Cove, Texas; his six grandchildren, Tony, Aaron & Cory Parker, Timothy, Austin & Natalie Rader; his brothers, Donald Rader of Mansfield, Darrell (Marlene) Rader of Woodstock, IL; his sister LaDonna (Daniel) Fuhrer of Lexington, Ohio; his sisters-in-law Dorothy (Eyerly) Rader and Dorothy (Barnhill) Rader, both of Mansfield; his brother- in-law, Glenn Greenawalt of Mansfield, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of students who he called his boys.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons Richard and Roger Rader; his brothers Burdell and Dwight Rader and sisters-in-law Molly Rader and Betty Greenawalt.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
