Virginia Elizabeth (Schoolcraft) Smith, 99, of Urbana, Ohio, made the final crossing to live with our Lord on July 10, 2012. Virginia was born on August 11, 1912 in Elizabeth Town, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Floyd M. Schoolcraft and Letha O. (Norris) Schoolcraft. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband Carl Newton Smith and ten sisters and brothers: Zelma (Schoolcraft) Zucker, Carmel (Schoolcraft) Anderason, Loretta May (Schoolcraft) Cutlip, Roberta (Schoolcraft) Scherer, Betty (Schoolcraft) Wince, Charles Schoolcraft, Norman Schoolcraft, Floyd Schoolcraft, Paul Schoolcraft and David Schoolcraft.
She is survived by her son, Earl (Patricia) Smith of Urbana, Ohio; a daughter, Shirley Michaels of Bloomington, Minnesota; a sister, Donna Hannan of St. Marys, West Virginia; her six grandchildren, Dan (Traci) Michaels and Susan Michaels of Minnesota, Joseph (Julie) Smith, Tim Smith and Kinley Smith all of Urbana, Ohio, Sandra Sue Ward of Beavercreek, Ohio. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Mathew Smith, Evan Smith and Sarah Smith of Urbana, Ohio, Andrew and Audrey Ward of Beavercreek, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Virginia attended the Urbana United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Senior Citizens Center and was one of the members of the Swinging Seniors who performed line dances for nursing homes and other facilities all over Ohio. Virginia loved ballroom dancing, square dancing and the Texas two-step. She was a member of the Keep Moving group. Virginia also loved to bowl and play Bingo. She was an expert seamstress who made most of her children’s clothes as well as her own. Virginia loved crafts and crocheted the rugs used in her home.
She was a loving and caring person and will be missed by her family.
A graveside service will be held in Cairo, West Virginia at the convenience of the family. Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
