Virginia F. Wynn, 85, of Cable passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. She was born on October 9, 1923 in Louisa, KY the daughter of Millard and Lilly (Moore) Thornhill.
She retired as the director of Tri-County Community Action. She also was involved in many Champaign County organizations, including serving as treasurer of the Salvation Army.
Virginia loved her dog, “Rueben”, sitting on her front porch, and fishing. She especially enjoyed being with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam (Bruce) Derr of Urbana, Jennifer Papst of Cable, Delilah Nance of West Liberty, Sheila Ruby, Cindy Knotts, and Teresa (Dave) Duncan all of Cable; sons, Bill (Karen), Keith (Jacki) Wynn both of Woodstock, Bruce (Tammy) Wynn of North Lewisburg, and Jeff (Robin) Wynn of Cable; 27 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; brother, Roger (Sue) Thornhill of Urbana; sisters, Ruth Adams of Urbana, Louise Tullis of Terre Haute, Carolyn (Lester) Cox of North Lewisburg, Judy Burnett of Circleville, Linda (Bob) Jumper or Urbana, and special sister-in-law, Aurillia Thornhill of Urbana; and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William “Wedge” Wynn Jr.; daughters, Sharon and Amy; infant son, Gary A.; brothers, Jim, Burrell, Larry, and Tom Thornhill; grandchildren, Tim Wynn, Jason Helms, and Christy Knotts; and great grandson, Dylan Brayton.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at SKILLMAN, MCDONALD, & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodstock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign County Cancer Society or the Champaign County branch of the Salvation Army.
