Walter M. “Sparky” Sparks, 79 of Plumwood, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 5, 1930 in Plain City, Ohio the son of Joe H. and Mary I. (Wright) Sparks.
Sparky served his county in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW and the American Legion Post in West Jefferson. He retired from General Motors as a fork lift operator. Sparky was a member of the Rosedale Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ella M. Sparks, his son, Rodney (Sheri)Sparks of North Carolina, his daughters, Darlene (Robert) Riebel of West Jefferson, Debbie (Donald) Wright of West Jefferson, and Kay Sparks, his step-sons, Ronald E. (Sally) McClary of Defiance, Ohio and Jerry W. (Wanda)McClary of Statesboro, GA, his step-daughter, Teresa (Mike) Baker of Plumwood ; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; his sister Carol (Jeb) Stevenson, Cincinnati, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 in the Rosedale Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Clayton Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery Mechanicsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Skillman, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, 257 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg, OH 43044.
