Willard Mearl Crowder, 91, of North Lewisburg passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010 in Green Hills Retirement Community, West Liberty.
He was born March 18, 1919 in North Lewisburg, the son of Lewis and Cliff (Spain) Crowder.
In 1932 Mearl exhibited the champion steer at the Buffalo New York Jr. Fat Cattle Show. In 1936 he earned the first FFA State Farmer Degree in Champaign County. Mearl graduated in 1937 from North Lewisburg High School and began his farming career raising Angus cattle. He married Virginia Black of Cable and continued dairy farming until his retirement. Mearl enjoyed playing the trumpet and banjo in several bands. He also enjoyed traveling on his Gold Wing motorcycle with his wife and friends Don and Doris Vassar. Mearl spent his retirement years enjoying woodworking and making gifts for his family and friends. He served on the Miami Valley Milk Producers Board for over 20 years and was a lifelong Farm Bureau member. Mearl was a former member of Portia Chapter, O.E.S., and Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. He belonged to the Blazing Star Lodge #268, F&A.M., the Star Chapter #126, Royal Arch Masons and he entered the Grand Lodge on September 30, 2010. Worshipful Brother Crowder was a Master Mason 57 years, 5 months and 7 days.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia; sons, Robert M. (Sherri Westfall) Crowder of North Lewisburg, Mark A. (Susan Lincoln) Crowder of North Lewisburg; son-in-law, Timmer Ground of TN; grandchildren, Tim (Melinda) Evans of TN, Terry (Angie) Evans of TN, Cheryl (Jeff) Pastorini of FL, Emily Grace Crowder of Columbus, John R.B. (Shannon) Crowder of North Lewisburg, Ashley Andra (Matt)McIntosh of West Liberty; great grandchildren, Emma, Ava, Audrey, Kara, Kailee and Jack Evans, Chase Crowder, Preston and Jacob Pastorini; step-granddaughter, Casie (Joseph) Reyes; brother-in-law, Robert (Frances) Black of Cable; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cheryl J. Evans Ground; brother, Arthur.
