William A. “Bill” Broadstone, 80 of Urbana, passed away, Sunday, February 28, 2010 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
He was born December 4, 1929 in Yellow Springs, Ohio and graduated from Urbana Local in 1947. Bill was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Farm Bureau. He served as a bus driver for 20 years with Urbana City Schools.
Bill was a sportsman all his life. He enjoyed trap shooting, both for pleasure and competition.
His passion was softball. Bill played until he was 64 years old. As a Christmas present from his children, in 1987, he experienced “dream week” with the Cincinnati Reds in Tampa, FL during Spring Training. He coached and played ball with his children and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne (Linton) Broadstone, his son, Ron (Patti) Broadstone of Columbus, his daughters, Joy (Dennis) Spriggs of Urbana, Bonnie Forsythe (Chris Logan) of Urbana and Jo Ellen (Brad) Buxton of Washington, PA; a daughter-in-law, Leslie (Hupp) Broadstone of Urbana; his grandchildren, Scott (Alison), Brett (Maria), Shelley Spriggs (Adam Claybaugh), Grant Forsythe, Hunter, Rachel and Abigail Broadstone, great grandchildren, Carston, Camden, Caroline, Brayden & Brylee and several nieces & nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Mary (Rockel) Broadstone, his son, Steven W. Broadstone, his sisters, Jeanne Forsythe and Margaret Sawyer.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in the Vernon Funeral Home Urbana, with Pastor Tony Pena officiating.
Entombment will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana. Serving as pall bearers; Dennis Spriggs, Ron Broadstone, Scott Spriggs, Brett Spriggs, Hunter Broadstone and Grant Forsythe.
