William H. (Bill) Nance, 92, of Woodstock passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in his residence. He was born July 11, 1922 in Woodstock, Ohio, the son of Fred and Florence (Donnal) Nance.
Bill served his county in the United States Army and later went on to work at Westinghouse. He loved working with the local farmers and at livestock auctions. Bill enjoyed baseball and softball, as well as, fishing, hunting, camping and helping raise livestock for 4-H. He loved his annual camping and fishing trips to Michigan. In his early years, his family traveled to Old Orchard Park in Oscoda, MI and later he spent 30+ years going salmon fishing on the Manistee River at Tippy Dam in Brethren, MI. He also enjoyed game and mushroom hunting. Bill loved the Champaign County Fair and he was very active in the hog and horse area.
Bill is survived by daughter, Connie (Ellis) Rittenhouse of Woodstock; sons, James R. Nance of Woodstock, Jerry (Naomi) Nance of West Liberty; sisters, Joan (Marshall) Dixon of Woodstock, Jeanette (Richard) Westfall and Rose (John) Arth of Marysville, Margaret (Lawrence) Graham of Urbana; grandchildren, Wendy Nance, Andy (Kathy) Nance, Felicia (Ernie) Nicols, Maria (Eric) Woodworth, Erica (Wayne) Harris, Eric (Rebeka) Rittenhouse; 13 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years and the love of his life, Imogene (Young) Nance; brothers, Robert (Bob), Arthur (Doodle), Earl, and Warren (Bud); sisters, Nellie, Marjorie and Donna and a great granddaughter.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 in the FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Woodstock Freewill Baptist Church with Pastors Russell Street and Don Hix officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodstock Cemetery.
