William A. “Bill” Nickell, 56 of Urbana, passed away, Thursday, October 22, 2015 in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born November 24, 1958 in Springfield, Ohio the son of the late Findley R. and Venice (Wells) Nickell. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force working as an operating room technician. He was a member of and served as Treasurer for Ingomer Lodge #610 Knights of Phytians and also a member of and financial secretary for Fifth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Springfield. He enjoyed fly-fishing with his fishing buddy, Charlie Hall, riding his triumph motor bike, and spending time with his good friends; Dave Huey, Derek and Hilary, Pam and Cliff, Aunt Mo and Uncle Terry and Teresa Snarr, Edna Edwards, and family from England when they visited, but mostly he loved being with his loving wife, his family and his dogs, Riley and Heidi.
Bill is survived by his wife, Diane Nickell, his sister, Joyce Hurst (Paul Bush) of Springfield, nieces and nephews; Mitch (Jill) Hurst of Springfield, Jason Hurst of Springfield, Suzanne Hagan (Darrell Ratcliffe) of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Beverly (David) Bass of Monroe, GA, in addition to numerous great and great- great nieces and nephews, as well as Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Pat Hagan and Greta Johnson.
The Knights of Phytians service will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 in the Fifth Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1331 E. High St., Springfield; A Memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Carol Gesalman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to be made to Fifth Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1331 E. High Street, Springfield, Ohio 45505.
Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNRAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.
We’re so sorry for your loss Aunt Diane, Bill was a wonderful person and we will all miss him. You are in our thoughts.
I am so sorry at the loss of Bill(my nephew)..have
not seen him for years but love him as he is our family. He looks so much like Finley (my brother).
